Moonstruck (1987/1988)

Directed by Norman Jewison Released December 18th, 1987/January 15, 1988 Written by John Patrick Shanley Movie Synopsis Courtesy of IMDB "Loretta Castorini, a bookkeeper from Brooklyn, New York, finds herself in a difficult situation when she falls for the brother of the man she has agreed to marry." So for starters I will clear the elephant in the room. The reason this movie has two dates in the title is because I am not sure what to put down as the real date. It's release date is technically January of 1988, but it's first premiere was in December of 1987. Which also means that it was made in 1987. I am not sure which is more accurate so that's why both is on there. You can decide which release is more accurate. Obviously this movie centers a lot around the idea of marriage and love. But it does so in a different way than most romantic comedies do. Not only do most of our characters have a vague and weird outlook on love/marriage, but th...

The Princess Bride (1987)

Directed by Rob Reiner Released October 9, 1987 Written by William Goldman Movie Synopsis Courtesy of IMDB "While home sick in bed, a young boy's grandfather reads him a story called The Princess Bride." Fighting, schemes, love, magic, war, royalties, jokes, henchmen, death, this movie really does have it all. No wonder it is a classic that people still rave about even to this day. The Princess Bride is one of those movies that your girlfriend wants to watch and you men don't mind because it actually is more than a love story. You find the jokes entertaining and the fighting scenes aren't too bad either. The funny thing is that idea is exactly how the boy at the beginning was looking at it, that it is "a kissing book." But by the end, both Grandpa and the boy show that it is more than just that. Speaking of that, I actually really enjoy that aspect of the movie, having this be a real story that is being read. It is different than...

Dirty Dancing (1987)

Directed by Emile Ardolino Released August 21, 1987 Written by Eleanor Bergstein Movie Synopsis Courtesy of IMDB "Spending the summer as a Catskills resort with her family, Frances 'Baby' Houseman falls in love with the camp's dance instructor, Johnny Castle." I would say that Dirty Dancing is another classic in terms of movies as a whole. It is one of those movies where even if you haven't seen it (which is crazy to think about) you at least have heard of it and know about the iconic dance scene. But we will discuss that scene later. Something interesting to think about is the fact that this movie was suppose to take place in 1963, but was filmed in the late 80s. I never knew that, that was the time period for the movie! Thinking about it now, it makes sense, but that is not the initial vibe I get. I think that is in part to the hair styles and the clothes seeming very 80s. Just look at the workout/dance clothes that Baby wears, it is...

Spaceballs (1987)

Directed by Mel Brooks Released June 24, 1987 Written by Mel Brooks, Thomas Meehan, & Ronny Graham Movie Synopsis Courtesy of IMDB "Planet Spaceballs' President Skroob sends Lord Dark Helmet to steal plant Druidia's abundant supply of air to replenish their own, and only Lone Starr can stop them." I remember the reason I first watched this movie was because of a recommendation from a friend. I had seen Mel Brooks' film Robin Hood Men in Tights ( which is easily one of my favorite films) so I figured this movie might not be so bad. The only thing that I was worried about was the fact that I had never seen Star Wars before (I still haven't). Sci-Fi movies just aren't my thing, except when it comes to Spaceballs. Spaceballs is the exception to the rule because it doesn't feel like a Sci-Fi movie, it just feels like a comedy where everyone is making fun of movies, Star Wars,  and cracking jokes about each other. The whole goal ...
