The Terminator (1984)

Directed by James Cameron Released October 26, 1984 Written by James Cameron, Gale Ann Hurd, & William Wisher Movie Synopsis Courtesy of IMDB "A seemingly indestructible android is sent from 2029 to 1984 to assassinate a waitress, whose unborn son will lead humanity in a war against the machines, while a solider from that war is sent to protect her at all costs." Okay, first of all, what is with the 80s and the future? This isn't the first movie that I have talked about that has taken place in the future, well I guess more about the future, and I am sure it isn't the last one either. I guess back in the 80s they were so excited to see how the world was going to change and predict what kind of technology we are going to have. I guess we will have to wait and see if machines actually take over in 2029. Seems like, in a way, they have already taken over society (Yes, iPhone users and Social Media, I am talking about you). Oh Arnold. What woul...

Ghostbusters (1984)

Directed by Ivan Reitman Released June 8, 1984 Written by Dan Aykroyd & Harold Ramis Movie Synopsis Courtesy of IMDB "Three former parapsychology professors set up shop as a unique ghost removal service." This movie is one of the classics from the 1980s. There are very few people who haven't seen this movie, even though it was released over 30 years ago. It is a classic that caused a sequel and a remake in 2016. While you can never live up to the original, having a remake of a movie normally shows just how popular the film is. ( I have already ranted about how I feel about remakes, so that is all I am going to say about that). It is also easy to see that this movie has a cult following because they have their own theme song! The title track of this movie didn't only help amplify the movie when it was first released, but it has helped Ghostbusters  stay relevant all these years. People still play this song every Halloween and the lyrics are...

Sixteen Candles (1984)

Directed by John Hughes Released May 4th, 1984 Written by John Hughes Movie Synopsis Courtesy of IMDB "A girl's 'sweet' sixteenth birthday becomes anything but special, as she suffers from every embarrassment possible." Since this is the first movie on my list by John Hughes, we have to talk about this man's genius for a second. John Hughes's films are the definition of 80s movies. Chances are you have seen at least one of his movies in your life if not more. He has directed movies such as Uncle Buck, all of the Home Alone movies , National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty in Pink, Weird Science, Breakfast Club, Flubber and these are just his most well-known films. You can check him out at the link below, because he is worth reading about. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000455/ Most of the classic 80s movies, and my favorites, are from the genius that is John Hughes. He just has a way of portr...

Footloose (1984)

Directed by Herbert Ross Released February 17th, 1984 Written by Dean Pitchford Movie Synopsis Courtesy of IMDB "A city teenager moves to a small town where rock music and dancing have been banned, and his rebellious spirit shakes up the populace." I am going to start today's entry by going on a little bit of a rant here. That is because I can't stand (for the most part) remakes! Now I have never seen the remake of Footloose, I just want to put that out there so I don't sound like a hypocrite. What is the point of remakes?! I am not just talking about this movie, I mean all remakes. These movies were such a success because of the actors, the crew, the director, and the story itself. You do a remake and pretty much everything from the original is stripped away except the story line. So that means you could never make the remake as good as the original, and very seldom they are. It is rare for someone to say the remake was better than the origina...
